MATTEA FRANCESCA ALTOMARE (nee CANTAFIO) It is with sadness that I announce the passing of a beloved mother and sister, Mattea Altomare, on Saturday, October 22, 2005. She was 75 years of age. Mattea was born January 3, 1930 in Transcona. She had resided there all of her life. Her work began with Eaton's in the Mail Order and Catalogue office. When she was blessed with a family, she devoted her life to being a wife and mother. She loved doing her ceramics, knitting and crochet. She was a member of the Transcona Retired Citizens Organization, and a 30 year member of the Catholic Women's League of Canada with St. Joseph the Worker Parish. Predeceased by her husband Carmine in 1996, baby Linda Teresa in 1964 and her mother and father, Mattea leaves to mourn her only son Frank; sisters, Gilda (Gabriele), Jean; and brother Tom (Anne); numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in Transcona, Vancouver, the United States and Italy. Mom's life revolved around her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She was an individual of courage, strength and love. All were transmitted to family and friends. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m., with viewing held one hour prior, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 505 Brewster St., with Fr. Richard Machura presiding. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blair Cantafio, Dale Cantafio, Brent Cantafio, Allan Murray, Nello Altomare and Alex Altomare. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, to honour Mom's memory, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Everything grows in my Mother's garden. Seeds of Patience, Blossoms of Hope. Flowers of Kindness. Fruits of Understanding. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
