LENA BIRCH Suddenly but peacefully on October 21, 2005 our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Lena was born in the Mohyla District in Saskatchewan. She moved to Winnipeg in her early years and remained there until her passing. She worked at a variety of jobs over the years but her main priority was raising her family. Lena loved to cook and garden but her greatest pastime was spending time with her family and friends. Mom was a member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church located a 110 Disraeli St. She is survived by her two sons, Norman, Ted (Gloria) and daughter Connie Dunne (Garry); grandchildren: Dana Faso (Tyler), Kerry, Kristeen, and Tyler Birch; Ian and Leanne Dunne and great-grandson Cameron. She was predeceased by husband Theodore; parents Metro and Dora Shelenko; brothers John, Mike, George, Sundak and sister Carol. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. also at Thomson In the Park with The Very Rev. John A. Melnyk officiating. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Norman Birch, Ted Birch, Garry Dunne, Ian Dunne, Tyler Birch and Tyler Faso. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of MB, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
