JOHN BLACKIE HAMPTON 1928 - 2005 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather and beloved husband on October 21, 2005 at Chilliwack General Hospital. John passed away quietly in his sleep with all his loving family by his side to guide his passage. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, June, on April 13, 2005. John was born in Montrose, Scotland on July 28, 1928, the first son of Nora Blackie Hampton and William Dakers Hampton. He enlisted in the British Army when he was 17 and later joined the RCAF. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his wife and two oldest daughters. After he retired, he was employed with St. John Ambulance, Red River College, as a commissionaire, and was a Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. John was a Mason, a Shriner and finally, a member of the No. 1 Legion in Winnipeg, MB. John leaves behind his five children, Veronica, Wendy, Julie (Jeff), Glenn and Leslie (Neil); his grandchildren, Byron, Hilary, Julie, Kelli (Tyler), Jon, Shawn (Mandy), Roger, Derek and David; and his great-grandchildren, Rylan, Justin, Lauryn and Devon. Special thanks to the Palliative Care nurses and staff, his doctors, Louise Corcoran and Saul Goodman, and the wonderful Hospice ladies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chilliwack General Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter - silvered wings; Woodlawn - 604-793-4555

  • Thought of you today, Dad, several times. That's not unusual because so much of you lives in my memory bank. Your face comes clearly into focus in my mind's eye, and it's easy to "hear" your wise counsel, and "see" your laughing eyes. I believe that nothing truly good is ever lost, and that love never dies. The best of you lives on in those who loved you, Dad. And surely your gifts of love and goodness will be passed along in our unending circle of life. We hold you close in our hearts always. - Posted by: Glenn Hampton (Family) on: Oct 27, 2005
