Doreen and Irvin moved to Portage la Prairie in 1956 where they raised their family. Family and friends were very important to Doreen and Irvin. Doreen had a lengthy and rewarding career as a legal and medical stenographer. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Electa Chapter No.2 and was an active member of the United Church Women. In the past few years she cherished old friendships and continued to build new ones, most notably, those of her community at Woodlands Walk. Doreen was fondly known as Cookie Grandma and her home was a favourite pit stop for children, teens, family and friends, to stop for a cookie, coffee or just a kind and supportive word. The true value of family and community is a gift from both Doreen and Irvin that will live on in successive generations. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church with viewing prior to the service. Rev. Julie Baker will be officiating. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Doreen's memory to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Canada, 89 Granton Drive, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 2N5 or to a charity of choice. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Doreen by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are in care of arrangements. 857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
