ERNESTO D'ANTONIO With sorrowful hearts and deep sadness after a lengthy illness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, nonno, bisnonno, Ernesto D'Antonio on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 85 years. Ernesto is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lucia, of 59 years, children Beatrice (Gesualdo), Carmine (Debra); five granddaughters Teresa (Lino), Sabina (Darryl), Jenelle (David), Nicole and Adrienne; one great-grandchild Dylan; brother-in-law Giuseppe and numerous nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and Italy. Ernesto was predeceased by two infant children, Carmine and Teresa; his father Carmine and mother Barbara; sisters Adalgisa and Requilda; brothers-in-law Giuseppe and Antonio and sister-in-law Maria. Papa was born April 14, 1920 in Villalago, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1956 where Winnipeg became his new home. In 1961, he was joined by his wife, two children and his mother. Papa was a loving and caring man, who always had a twinkle in his eye and a big smile for everyone. He was also a hardworking man and very proud of his achievements. To provide for his family, he cultivated plots of land and reared livestock. He also served with the Italian Army during The Second World War as a doctor's assistant. Upon his arrival to Winnipeg, he began working at Coldstream Refrigeration continuing at Westmacott Windows and in 1975 he joined the Housekeeping Department at Grace Hospital until his retirement in 1985. His greatest pride and joy were his five granddaughters. Nonno also enjoyed playing scopa with his great-grandson Dylan, who was the apple of his eye. The family wishes to thank the home care workers, especially Marybel, Sheila, Karin and Christine; friend Teresa and the staff at the Nursing Home. Prayers will be said on Friday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment to follow at Assumption Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, if family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Ernesto's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6.
