VAL KOVACHIK (1933 - 2005) Peacefully on October 24, 2005 our husband, dad and grandfather, brother passed away at the Health Sciences Centre after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Val leaves behind his loving wife Lorraine, of 46 years; his wonderful family, son Robert (wife Nancy grandsons, Colin and Cameron); son James (wife Evelyn grandchildren, David and Amelia); son Glen (wife Kay grandsons, Carter and Cole). Val is survived by his sisters, Eleanor (Gordon Peterson), Margaret (Al Tymko); brother Alex (Suzanne); sister-in-law Diane (Bill Evans), nieces, nephews and a horde of friends. Val was born in Cowan, MB, attended the Provincial Normal School for his teacher training and furthered his education at the University of Manitoba, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees. He worked in the River East School Division for 39 years, where he taught before he began his career as Vice - Principal at Munroe Jr. High and Principal of McLeod, Lord Wolseley, Prince Edward School, retiring from Salisbury Morse Place in 1992. He was a member of the East Kildonan Kiwanis Club for 40 years serving as president twice. He was director of Key Club Builders Club, Kids Club and founder of Science Fair R.E.S.D. Over the years Val also found time to serve on the executive of R.E.T.A. in a various capacities. Dad was an active member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and a strong supporter/roadie for Sisters of the Holy Rock. Dad was avid curler, golfer and hockey player. He loved spending time with his family at Grand Beach boating, fishing, water skiing, blueberry picking and roaring around the Belair Forest on his four wheeler with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed travelling throughout Canada, Mexico, Europe and the United States. A celebration of his life will held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church at 220 Helmsdale Ave., E.K. on Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m.. A private interment will be held at a later date. Dad... Someone who can never be thanked enough or shown enough appreciation for all that he did... he was the soul of our family life. His memory will be forever cherished. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Health Science Centre (SICU) for their care and support during this difficult time.
