KATHRYN GERTRUDE CHRISTIE May 23, 1940 - October 24, 2005 It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother on October 24 quietly at home following a brief illness. Kathy will forever be cherished and remembered by her three sons, John, Chris and Geoff along with daughters-in-law, Beth, Linda and Celia and granddaughters, Samantha, Sydney and Cody who were always so proud of her. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margot Christie (Winnipeg) and Diane Christie (Thunder Bay, ON). Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Frances Christie (Winnipeg); brothers, Nick (Winnipeg) and Dave (Thunder Bay, ON). Kathy was born in Winnipeg on May 23, 1940 and spent her formative years growing up in River Heights graduating from Kelvin High School in 1958. She was a fixture of Minaki, ON for sixty-five glorious summers as a member of the 'Christie Camp' on the Winnipeg River. Kathy loved Minaki from a young age and it was here that she felt at home and at peace with the world. The wildlife of Minaki was what gave her the most pleasure as she particularly enjoyed the returning loons and could spend many hours discussing their life. Kathy has left an indelible mark on the property in Minaki and her presence will be with us forever. As a teenager Kathy's fondness for water turned competitive and she became a respected championship swimmer with the Winnipeg Winter Club. Although her competitive edge waned over the years, she took great pride and pleasure watching her granddaughters frolic in the lake in much the same way she did at that age. Kathy entered into her well deserved retirement at the end of last year after 31 years of dedicated and loyal service with Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation. She was proud to be associated with a committed urban housing program in aid of lower income families. Kathy lived her life with an admirable blend of strength, courage and tenacity which she demonstrated throughout her life and especially in the last weeks as she surrounded herself with family, friends, love and warmth. Her commandeering spirit and laugh will resonate in our hearts eternally. Kathy chose cremation with her ashes sharing the land at Minaki. No formal service will take place as the family has chosen to celebrate her life in a private gathering of friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare of Manitoba should friends desire to do so. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway 783-7211
