FRED KOSTYK March 17, 1916 - October 8, 2005 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Kostyk on October 8, 2005 at the age of 89 at the Lachine Hospital Centre in Montreal, Quebec. He was predeceased by his wife Emilia, his son Raymond, brothers Andrew, Peter, Kirby, and sisters Pearl and Ann. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Cathie, son-in-law Real, daughter-in-law Margaret, grandchildren Susan and Chuck, sisters Alice, Doris, Nellie, Kate, brothers Bill and John (Mary), niece Helen, sister-in-law Stephanie Waldherr and brother-in-law John Dumanchuk, and family and close friends in Canada and the States. Fred was a proud Veteran of the Spanish Civil War having served with the MacKenzie-Papineau battalion and was awarded honorary Spanish citizenship, and was a proud Veteran of World War II, having been decorated with five medals. He had been retired from Air Canada since 1977 after 25 years service in Winnipeg and Montreal. Dad will be remembered by his generosity, hospitality, sense of humour, wisdom, and availability to help those in need. For the past seven years, his home was in Montreal with Cathie and Real, where he enjoyed tending his garden, reading, cooking meals, taking care of our pet lovebird Pablo, and feeding the squirrels and birds in the backyard. We shall miss his presence and companionship immensely. Cremation has taken place and a visitation/reception celebrating Dad's life was held at JJ Cardinal Funeral Home in Montreal on October 12. Donations, if desired, may be made to a charity of your choice.
