HELGA JONASSON Peacefully on October 25, 2005, at the Arborg District Health Centre, Helga Jonasson passed away surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents Kristjan and Steinunn; brother Bjossi; sister Kristjana (Konni), twin sisters, Hildur and Sigurbjorg, half-sister Bjorg; half-brothers, Steini and Laugi; and nephews, Bjorn and Ernest. Left to cherish her memory is her son Bill (Sandy); grandsons, Kalon and Connor; sister-in-law and special friend Emily; nephews and nieces, Olena, Johanna (George), Steinunn, Alice, Glenn (Cathy), Wendy (Dexter), Lyle (Debbie), Kevin, Wesley, Allan (Gloria). Helga was born March 5, 1916, on the family farm in Vidir. She lived in Vidir and Arborg for most of her 89 years. Mom devoted her life to her family as a daughter, aunt, mother and amma. Mom loved the simple things in life like sunshine, nature, music, and especially her people. Her love and pride were always evident in her relationship with her grandsons, Kalon and Connor. Helga kept busy knitting gifts for family and friends. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and the company of friends over a Kaffi sopa. Mom frequently treated us to extraordinary Icelandic sayings which occurred to her from memories of days and times gone by. Helga suffered illness in her latter years with acceptance and dignity without complaint. Doctors and nurses would often comment on her character, her inner strength and ability to keep consistent view of the bright side. Special thanks to the homecare staff at the Arborg Sunrise Lodge. We were happy to share our family treasure with you, which you cared for so well. Helga's family would also like to extend special thanks to all the health care professionals she came in contact with over the years, for the care and kindness shown to her and our family. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg. Interment will follow at the Vidir Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ardal Geysir Lutheran Church. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
