Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON MURRAY CLEGHORN BSc MD FRCP(c) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of husband, father and grandfather Gordon Murray Cleghorn, at the age of 76 years on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre with his family by his side. Living life on his own terms, Dad fought his cancer to the end. He loved his work second only to his family and was working as the Radiologist at The Gimli Johnson Memorial Hospital until a few short months ago. His dedication to his family and work remains as a legacy to us. Dad (Afi) will be missed dearly by his wife Bina (Johnson), children Blaine (Joni), Kevin (Julie), Debbie (Rob) and Kathy (Ralph), grandchildren Brett and Scott, Kristen and Jacquie, Brynn and Jamie, Alec, Sam and Chase, sister Joan (Tom). Dad was born in 1929 to Dr. Irving Murray and Jean Cleghorn. He attended Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba. After receiving the University of Manitoba Gold Medal with a Bachelor of Science, Dad entered Medical School. He received his MD Degree in 1955 and continued with specialty training in Radiology. Dad was married to Josephine (Bina) Johnson on May 22, 1954. Mom was born in Gimli and met Dad as he worked there during the summers. Dad's association and fondness for Gimli was a constant part of his life. Mom and Dad recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2004. Dad had a distinguished career as a radiologist. He had a long association with the Manitoba X-Ray Clinic as both an associate and a partner from 1958-2004. He was the former head of the Misericordia Hospital X-Ray Clinic and held staff appointments at the Misericordia, Grace, Deer Lodge and St. Boniface Hospitals. He was the original radiologist at the Gimli Johnson Memorial Hospital. He continued to provide care for his patients there until a few months ago, when his illness sadly forced him to finally retire. Dad was a former long time member of the Winnipeg Winter Club, Winnipeg Squash Club and the Manitoba Yacht Club. Dad was very well read and had strong and clear opinions on most subjects. All those around him were regularly briefed on each of them. Dad was a man of great integrity and always kept his family first. He will be sorely missed by his family and his friends. The standard he set for us will remain long after he is gone. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Dad's Life will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Thanks to Dr. Navarathnam, Dr. Crawford, Betty, Linda, Christine, David, Wesley, Tony and the many others at CancerCare and the Riverview Health Centre for taking care of Dad. The family appreciates your kindness and efforts in keeping Dad comfortable over the last few months. At Dad's request there will be no pallbearers or flowers. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. My condolences to Bina and the family. Gord and I were the best of friends during our medical school days. We spent many a pleasant evening with Gord and Bina. We bunked together as interns and had a marvelous but short friendship. After graduation and radiology fellowship I moved to the USA and finally Calgary. We did not see much of each other over the years except at medical reunions. I remember our friendship and our good times with Gord and Bina with much fondness. God Bless.
