Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR CORNELIUS DEFEHR It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Cornelius DeFehr on October 28, 2005. Artie will be sadly missed by his wife Patricia, his daughter Ardyth (Chris Hamel), and his two sons Teddy and Collin. He was predeceased by his father Cornelius C. DeFehr and is survived by his mother Agatha DeFehr, brother Bill (Marlene) DeFehr and his sister Irene (Fred) Wall. Artie will also be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law Maggie and Gord McNaught, Gail and Steve Hrousalas, and his many nieces and nephews. Artie was born in Winnipeg on May 14, 1946 and grew up attending Elmwood Elementary School and MBCI Collegiate where he met many of his life long friends. Artie then went on to complete his degree at the University of Manitoba before entering in the family furniture business in 1967. Artie worked for DeFehr Furniture Appliances for over 28 years in a number of capacities, which culminated in 1990 when he became the company's president. Artie's many involvements in the business community included: serving as an advisor for Clayton Mannes' economic advisory committee, serving as president for the Allied Furniture Buying Group across Canada, and serving as a board member for the St. Boniface General Hospital Foundation. He also sat on additional boards including: St. John's Ravenscourt, Balmoral Hall, Deer Lodge United Church, and was heavily involved in fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society and Kidney Foundation. Artie loved to read and was very knowledgeable on many topics. He was interesting and very easy to talk to, which was complemented by his fabulous sense of humour. He was good-natured, incredibly generous and was always quick to put others wishes ahead of his own. Above all of his other passions in life, Artie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. Regardless of whether it was as simple as going for a walk, taking a drive, or watching a movie, Artie felt that any time that was spent with family was time well spent. A viewing and prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm Tuesday November 1 at St. Lukes Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St., North. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 2 at St. Luke's Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gideon's Bible Society or the Winnipeg Humane Society. My thoughts and prayers to Artie's immediate family and friends. I attended MBCI with Artie, and regrettably have not seen him for many years. I have fond memories of having known him. I truly remember him as a caring person, as also can be seen from things he became involved in, as sited in the write up. May the many special memories always be near to you and carry you. - Posted by: Ken Boese (Acquaintance) on: Nov 01, 2005
