WILFRED ARTHUR STANGER Suddenly, but peacefully, Wilf Stanger passed away at home on October 28, 2005 at the age of 84 years. Wilf was predeceased by his loving wife Myrtle on January 11, 2000. He is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Officer (John) and Lorene Graham (Gary); grandchildren, Rob, Jane (Dave) and Jill; and his great-grandchildren, Kristin and Brendan. Wilf was born in Winnipeg, raised in Elmwood and very proud of his Canadian ancestry. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Walter and a sister Mary. He is survived by his brother Gordon, wife Eileen, brother Norman, wife Pat, sister-in-law Audrey and nieces and nephews. After serving as a gunner in the Tactical Air Force (R.C.A.F.) during the Second World War, Wilf married Myrtle in 1945. Both were members of No. 215 Legion. Wilf drove a cab for the first year and later worked as a traffic controller for the C.N.R. After 37 years, he retired in 1983. Wilf enjoyed travelling with Myrt and many of their friends to Hawaii, California, Oregon and many golf trips in Manitoba. He was an avid sportsman taking part himself in curling, golfing, fishing, hunting and swimming. The fishing camp at Niddrie has many memories of happy days spent with family or his fishing buddies . Music and dancing were also fun times in earlier years. It was through these activities he made so many lifelong friendships. Wilf had a special way with children and adults and his sense of humour tested more than a few. His love and support for his family was unwavering. His grandchildren meant the world to him, and of course in later years his two great-grandchildren. They learned many lifelong lessons from his sense of humour, honesty and integrity. Wilf's caring ways have helped many a friend, neighbour and stranger over his lifetime. He will be greatly missed by many. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. A private family interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with Myrt. If friends so desire, donations in Wilf's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or the Firefighters Burn Fund Inc., 303-83 Garry St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4J9. Till we meet again, We love you KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331

  • To John and family, At this time I want to give you my warm thought and prayers at a time like this. On the passing of your Dad , Grandpa. I only met Wilf since April. I had fun playing crib and being his partner. He was always joking around. Neil Boisclair - Posted by: Neil Boisclair (Friend) on: Nov 03, 2005

  • My condolences to Leslie and Lorene. I grew up at 353 Dunrobin Ave. I can remember your Dad always having a word to say and I always got a charge from some of his comments. I had to come home to Wpg (I live in Saskatoon, 22 yrs now) with my Mom's remains (she passed in March @ 81) I drove down Dunrobin and your Dad was outside, so I stopped and had a chat. LOL he remembered me as the little (beep beep) from down the street. It was good to see he still had that humour of his. Best Regards; Russ - Posted by: Russ McKee (Acquaintance) on: Nov 02, 2005

  • To the Officer Family It's my deepest sadness to hear of the passing of Wilf. I played crib with him for a short time. Was the nicest man I know. I will miss him dearly. Neil Boisclair - Posted by: Neil Boisclair (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2005
