JOHN HEINRICHS 1916 - 2005 Peacefully on November 2, 2005 with family at his side, John Heinrichs entered into eternal rest after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary of 63 years; daughters, Carol (Mike) Maruk, Lynn (Gary) Farkas; daughter in-law Anna Heinrichs; five grandchildren, Michelle, Deborah and Colin Maruk, Trish (Lloyd) and Kyle Farkas. John was predeceased by his son Al in 1989, whom he dearly missed. John was born in Swift Current, SK on August 12, 1916; the eldest of 15 children. He is survived by four sisters and two brothers. John sought his independence at an early age where he obtained various farming jobs. He married Mary Bergen on October 9, 1942 in the Bergthaler Church in Lowe Farm. Soon after, he enlisted in the army and was shipped overseas where he was a driving instructor, returning home in July of 1946. John was never afraid to try new challenges, and he and Mary moved throughout MB where he found various employment in farming, mining, truck and bus driving, construction and carpentry. They finally settled on a farm near Elm Creek in the 1970's before retiring to town in 1985, where his hobby of small engine repair almost became a full time business. John enjoyed spending time with family and teaching his grandchildren crokinole and card games. He enjoyed fishing with both sons-in-law and used his knowledge and experience to lend a helping hand whenever needed. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Carman Memorial Hospital for taking care of John and his family in his last days. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB. R3E 0V9, would be greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Elm Creek on Monday, November 7, at 1:00 p.m., interment at the Elm Creek Cemetery to follow. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. www.doyleschapels.com
