They farmed in the Crestview District until 1953 when they moved to the Sandringham District west of Dauphin where they continued to farm for many years. Jim worked as a correctional officer from 1970 - 1988. Another highlight in Jim's life was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in 1995 with the first love of his life, June. Jim was community minded and over the years was involved in many activities: curling in both Ashville and Dauphin, member and chairman of the Sandringham School Board of Trustees, Credit Union Board, ARC Industries board, Dauphin Game Fish Association (started the first Game Fish Bonspiel) United Church Sunday School, was a Life Member of the Dauphin Farmers' Curling Club. In July, 2005 they moved to the new Lorray Manor where they lived until Jim's passing. As his mobility became limited by ALS, Jim appreciated the wonderful assistance he received from his homecare workers. A memorial funeral service was held on Saturday, November 5 at the Dauphin First United Church with Rev. Robert Johannson officiating. A private family interment of his cremains was held before the service. All of Jim's friends are to consider themselves honorary pallbearers.
