DAVID JOHN MCINTYRE, FCA With heavy hearts, we announce that David John McIntyre, 67, passed peacefully into God's loving arms on November 4, 2005, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Dave will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 42 years, Colleen (nee Cooper), his three children, Catharine, Sharon and Geoff (Jill) and grandchildren, Jessica, Emily and Sean. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Finlay and Minnie. Dave was born and raised in the West End of Winnipeg. He was an avid Boy Scout and member of the Winnipeg boy's choir. He graduated from Gordon Bell High School, entered University and then went on to join the University Naval Training Division. He often said that if he had not met a beautiful young nursing student named Colleen, he would have pursued a career at sea. Dave and Colleen married in 1963, and a year later he earned his designation as a Chartered Accountant. In 1989, he was recognized for years of contributing both to his profession and community when he was named as a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants (FCA). Dad began work with Air Canada in 1969, and worked in a number of management positions both in Winnipeg and Montreal. He retired in 1999 as the Director of Internal Audit after a distinguished 30-year career. Through his tireless involvement as an active member of the community Dad touched many lives and made lifelong friends. Over the years he lent his skills as a volunteer to the Winnipeg Children's Aid Society, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba, the YMCA, Sturgeon Creek United Church, Breezy Bend Country Club, The Portage Avenue Food Bank and The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Manitoba. Dad travelled the world, for work and pleasure, enjoyed gardening, golfing with Mom, time at Victoria Beach and curling with friends. Above all, he had a lifelong love for music and the theatre. Indeed, later in life, Dave managed to convince us all that this one-time Winnipeg choirboy had missed his true career calling. He launched headlong into his second career as a tenor. He sang with the church choir, performed in 14 Gilbert and Sullivan productions at the Pantages Playhouse, and had most recently added the Scottish singing group, Brochan Lom to his list of credits. Dad was truly an inspiration to anyone who thinks it is too late to follow your passion and your heart. Dad was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, uncle and grand pappy . He was a proud man who possessed great gentleness, integrity and a legendary sense of humour. His memory will burn brightly for all of those who were blessed to know him. With great love comes great pain, and we grudgingly accept one with the other. We take comfort in the knowledge that the pain will eventually subside and know that it is the love we share with God for Dave that will endure forever. Love to you always and forever Dad and God bless. A celebration of Dave's life will take place Wednesday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that donations be made in Dave's name to one of the following: The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Manitoba (in care of 796 Waterloo St., Winnipeg, MB R3N 0T6), The Winnipeg Humane Society (5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3), or The Canadian Cancer Society (193 Sherbrook Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7).
