KASMIR KARL KRUCH November 5, 1921 - November 6, 2005 Peacefully at home on Sunday, November 6, 2005, Kas passed onto eternal life to be reunited with his beloved wife Helen (Kaplinski). Born in 1921 to John and Caroline Kruch, Kas spent his early life in Winnipeg's north end moving to St. Boniface in 1947. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph (Janina), Edward and Rudy and his sisters, Jean, Genevieve Paton (Jim) and Stella Yaholkowski (Peter). He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Vandaele (Charles) and Leslie Vincent (James), his grandchildren, Christine Vandaele, Janet Kaplan (Steven), Robert and Bryan Vincent and great-grandchildren, Zoe Helen and Matthew Kaplan, his sisters-in-law, Mary Kruch and Godlieve Kalin-Noiles and many nieces and nephews. Kas was a devoted father, friend and grandfather. He was a gentle man who guided, loved and went the extra mile for family and friends. Kas served in the medical corps of the RCAF during the Second World War stationed in Rivers and Winnipeg. Kas was on his way to India when the Second World War ended and returned to Winnipeg where he served at Deer Lodge Hospital until his honourable discharge. During these years, he and Helen made many lifelong friends with whom they remained in contact throughout the years. Upon discharge, Kas returned to work at the Winnipeg Free Press and then the Winnipeg Tribune until his retirement due to the closure of the Tribune on August 27, 1980. After retirement Kas spent many happy summers at Leslie and Jim's cottages at Falcon Lake and Poplar Bay. Kas was very proud that he learned to water ski at the age of 65. Kas was a life member of Manitoba Refit Centre, crediting this organization with starting him into his retirement activities of walking, cycling, cross country skiing and swimming. The family would like to give special thanks to Dad's caregiver Maria Ferrario for her dedication, care and support, to the WRHA staff of the Respiratory and Palliative Home Care Programs and to the staff of Veterans Affairs. Special thanks to Dr. Hugh Smith who cared for Dad since his heart and lung condition was diagnosed. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, 252 Dubuc St., Thursday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m., Fr. James Gray officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Kas' memory to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation (COPD study), D1003 - 409 Tache Ave, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
