His six nieces and nephews, Tanis, Kyle, Tessa Grandmont and Kyle, Jeremy, Josh Armstrong will also fondly remember Rick. As well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Rick was predeceased by his father Frank Grandmont in February 1999. Rick spent his whole life in Argyle, he built his home on the family farm and it was in Argyle he found his life partner and best friend Shelly. Shelly and Rick married June 26, 2004; Rick was excited about the upcoming arrival of their first child. Rick attended Brant Argyle School and later Stonewall Collegiate. Growing up Rick enjoyed hockey, baseball, football and curling, and was a member of the Argyle 4-H Beef Club. After finishing school Rick started his working career in highway/road construction, while working for companies such as Ken Palson Enterprises, Rick dreamed of getting his own equipment and starting his own company, his dream was realized in 1999 when he started R. Grandmont Excavation. From an early age Rick was involved in the family farm, and continued to actively farm in addition to his business. A hobby Rick enjoyed was his Harley Davidson motorcycle, on which he took numerous trips annually to the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota. Rick had a great sense of humour and loved to tease or pull pranks which his family and friends can attest to. He enjoyed going out and having fun with friends or sitting having coffee at a few of the coffee stops in the community. Rick's friendships spanned many age groups, from his school chums to new neighbours and friends in the community, as well as the many friendships made while working construction. His close friends Ben Schindle, Ron Grandmont, Scott Paterson, Ken Yule, Tom Balzer, John Reimer, Rod deLaroque and Charlie Dunlop will have the honour of serving as pallbearers. The family would like to thank the RM of Woodlands First Responders, Stonewall Ambulance and Hospital for their quick response in Rick's time of need. Special thanks to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and wonderful care of Rick since October 29, 2005. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel Stonewall. Private family interment to follow at the Argyle Cemetery later. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. He Only Takes The Best God looked around His garden And found an empty space. He then looked down upon the earth, And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you were in pain, He knew that you might never, Get well upon this earth again. He knew the road was getting rough, And the hills were too hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids, And whispered, Peace be thine . It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. We'll miss you Rick MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
