DOREEN (DOLLY) ELEANOR JACKSON (KOSTIW) Peacefully went to eternal rest on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Brookhaven Care Centre, Kelowna, BC. with loving family by her side. Predeceased by her father Stanley Kostiw (1987) and mother Mary (1994), Doreen is survived by her brother Russel Kostiw of Kelowna, BC, her two daughters, Dawn Sadowski and Susan Mackney (husband Grant) of Winfield, BC, four grandchildren, Christopher and Andrea Sadowski and Benson and Coleby Mackney, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss her dearly. Doreen was born (April 21, 1937) and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she enjoyed a long and illustrious career in the hotel industry. She began in Sales and Public Relations in 1966 at the International Inn, and then went on to CP Hotels' Northstar Inn where she developed her skills and became Manager of each department within the hotel. Doreen concluded her successful career in 1992 at the Birchwood Inn, now known as Holiday Inn Airport West, where she became Assistant General Manager. She was once named The First Lady of Hotels in a trade publication that celebrated her achievements in hotel management at a time when there were very few female executives in her field. Doreen loved her work and made many friends through her profession. She also worked tirelessly while fundraising for her favourite charity, The Variety Club of Manitoba and was given many special acknowledgements and accolades for her efforts. Doreen married three times; in 1956 to Edward L. Marzec, the father of her two daughters, in 1973 to Raymond G. Provencal who predeceased her in 1976, and finally to H. Robert Jackson in 1984, all of Winnipeg. Doreen was a loving and generous mother and grandmother who was proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She loved to dance, cook, entertain and shop, all of which she was very proficient. She was a naturally gifted artist and created beautiful crafts, paintings and needlework. Doreen was devoted to her pets, especially her dogs, and always enjoyed the company of birds and other creatures of nature throughout many years of weekend leisure at the cottage and RV travel. Her favourite indulgence was to escape to warm and sunny beach destinations during the cold prairie winters or to challenge lady luck in Nevada and elsewhere. Doreen moved to the Okanagan shortly after her retirement at 55 but sadly did not fulfil dreams of that freedom, most notably, another cruise, due to her failing health and a devastating stroke at the youthful age of 59. She will always be remembered for her sense of humour, feisty disposition and unmistakable zest for life; a passionate and fun-loving soul who could always light up a room with her quick wit, exuberance, style and beauty. A Celebration of Doreen's life journey will be held at Everden Rust Funeral Chapel, 1910 Windsor Road, Kelowna, BC at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2005. A memorial gathering will also be scheduled in Winnipeg at a later date to commemorate interment and her final voyage home. A sincere thank you to Father Andriy Werbowy and to all the staff at Brookhaven Care Centre for their kind, loving, patient and professional care for Doreen during her lengthy residence. Our hearts will always be filled with love and remembrance of our wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Sister Doreen. So softly you flew, the sweetest Angel, that was you.
