Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANET ELAINE (HAMMILL) GALE, CIP It is with a heavy heart that Bob announces the passing of his beloved wife Janet Gale on Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at St. Boniface Hospital. Besides Bob, her husband of 34 years, she is survived by her son Jason, grandsons, Jeremy and Gage and her mother Muriel Hammill, all of Winnipeg, sister Judith Hammill and brother-in-law Roger Swickis of Gibson's Landing, BC, stepson David and Wendy and family of Feversham, ON, Nan (Gale) and Herman Anderson, Doreen (Gale) and George deDenus, Jim Gale and Linda, Debbie (Gale) and Bud Muise, all of Winnipeg and Dan and Carol McCarron of Port Coquitlam, BC. She was predeceased by her father Clair Hammill in 2003. Janet was born in Winnipeg May 13, 1949. She lived in St. Vital most of her life, where she attended Glenwood School and Glenlawn Collegiate. She worked for Portage la Prairie Mutual Insurance Company for 37 years, starting as an administrative assistant and earning accreditation as an adjuster, one of the first women claims adjusters in Canada. Janet spent many a summer on Lake Winnipeg, and she and Bob travelled all over the continent and beyond. In recent years, they made several of these vacations with their much loved grandsons. She was an avid sports fan and a puzzle-solver par excellence. She loved music. Much to her surprise (and ours), she took up sewing and quilting several years ago and has left us with many beautiful quilts, which she specially made with love. Janet retired in 2004 and continued to enjoy retirement even after illness struck. She faced cancer like the tough cookie she always pretended to be, with courage and humour. Janet was always quick to laugh, with her keen mind and lightning fast one-liners and she was easy to laugh with. Members of her family and friends will remember a lot of fun times with her and will miss her very much. Out of respect for Janet's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Private interment will take place on Monday. Special thanks and appreciation to the staffs of CancerCare and St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Ward. In lieu of flowers, donations in Janet's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, or to a charity of your choice.
