Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDGAR ED WILLIAM HILGER (1919 - 2005) On Thursday, November 10, 2005, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Ed passed away peacefully at home with his family. Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace; children, Carolynn Slater (David), Janice Wilson (Robert), Gordon Hilger; grandchildren, Greg Slater, Andrea and Graeme Wilson; brothers, Milton and Willard and sister Maizie Jolly and their families as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Born February 25, 1919 near Claresholm, AB, the eldest of four children, Ed grew up on his family's farm during the depression years. He joined the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War and served as an aircraft mechanic. While stationed in Winnipeg, he met and married Grace Pegler in 1945. That year, Ed also purchased land south of Winnipeg to farm, raise a family and follow his faith. After the Second World War, Ed worked for Bristol Aerospace and later as a Provincial Highway Inspector until his retirement in 1984. With an inventive mind and multiple skills, Ed had a passion for building and creating in his workshop. Always active and involved with many issues or concerns, Ed contributed many hours of dedicated service for others. He was pro-active in discerning the impact of the Red River Floodway on land areas to the south and continued this lobby for home owners for many years. Ed's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19 in St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd., with Rev. Susan Tough officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Palliative Care, S. Eastman, P.O. Box 88, St. Pierre-Jolys, MB, R0A 1V0, attn. Anne Plett. Ed's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
