ALEX SCHWAKIN February 20, 1920 - November 16, 2005 It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Alex Schwakin, peacefully at the Seven Oaks Hospital in his 85th year. Alex was predeceased by his daughter Nina Hill in March 1993 and her husband Robert G. T. Hill in December 1992 and his grandson Richard G. J. Hill in December 1987. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Ann; his son Victor and grandchildren, Mona (Rob), Melissa (Mike), David and great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kolby, Ashley and Ryan. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Alex grew up on a farm most of his early years. As the age of 18 he was enlisted in the army. After the war, in 1945 he met Ann and fell in love. The new couple immigrated to Belgium where Alex worked as a coalminer for five years. In 1959 they moved to Winnipeg to start their new life together. Alex worked for Aetna Roofing for 30 years and travelled the world as a roofing specialist. Retiring in 1985, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and picking wild mushrooms and blueberries as well as taking a few excursions to the casinos in the United States. Ann and Alex made friends wherever they went. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

  • I will miss that friendly smile of Alex's on our trips together to the casino's. He was always a pleasure to have on our bus. Lorna--Dynasty Tours - Posted by: lorna (Friend) on: Nov 18, 2005
