JOHN KENNETH JOHNSTON April 24, 1925 - September 26, 2005 At the age of 80, Ken passed away peacefully at the Tri-Lake Health Centre in Killarney, MB. He is survived by his loving wife Alma, his children, Terry (Becky), David (Lorrie), Kelly and Rae (Len), his sisters, Dorothy and Phyllis (Bob), sister-in-law Jean, six grandchildren, Katherine, Devon, Stephanie, Alison, Katelyn and Jonathan and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elsie, his brother Harvey and numerous aunts and uncles. Ken was born on the farm west of Lena at NE 29-1-17. He was always very involved with his family, the church and his community. He farmed for most of his life and even after he left the farm, the farm never left him. He followed the markets, the weather reports, the years crops, always checking on how seeding or harvest was going. Ken will always be remembered for his sense of humour, his ready smile and his helping hand. He always had a joke at the ready. The mischievous twinkle in his eyes told that he was up to something. His smile would brighten any room. Ken helped out many neighbours and friends over the years, with harvest, haying, rides to the city to a doctors appointment or to catch a plane somewhere, or helping in a search party for a little boy that got lost in the Carberry desert. Family parties, community parties, old time dances or any other occasion were always lots of fun. Ken loved to have a good time. He had a beautiful deep bass voice that entertained many over the years. He loved to dance and he and Alma were a handsome couple gliding around the dance floor. Ken was always involved in the local community, whether it was something going on at the church, a ball game in Smirl's pasture, a bonfire at the school yard or someone looking for a friendly smile. Ken loved his family and spent lots of time with them, picnics at the lake, fishing, swimming, playing cards and teaching them about life. He not only taught his own kids and grandkids, but also the many others that passed through his life over the many years. Ken will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those that knew him. Cremation and a memorial service took place on September 30 in Killarney. For those who wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Killarney United Church Building Fund in care of Killarney United Church, Killarney, MB R0K 1G0.
