STELLA SMITH (nee GALONSKI) Peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the St. Joseph's Personal Care Residence, Stella Smith passed away at the age of 90 years. Stella was predeceased by her parents; five infant siblings; sister Rose Skwarek; brothers, Joe and Walter; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Kotyk and Phillip Skwarek. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sister Mabel Kotyk of Toronto; sisters-in-law, Mary of Winnipeg and Phyllis of Matlock and many nieces and nephews. Stella was born June 1, 1915 in the Melnice District, grew up on the family farm and later made her home in Winnipeg. She married Albert and later spent many special years with her dear friend Pat Landy. Stella worked at Canadian Pacific Railway and then the Health Sciences Centre until her retirement. Her special joy was gardening. An independent spirit with a great sense of humour, she will be sadly missed. Special thanks to Dr. T. Babick and the kind staff at St. Joseph's residence for their care and compassion as well at her special caregivers Mary and Carol. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella's memory to Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
