MARIE BLANCHE PAYETTE (nee DECOSSE) Born August 21, 1926 Somerset, MB With great sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Marie Payette on Friday, November 18, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 56 years, Denis; daughters, Sharon, Joanne (Hagen), Kathy and son Robert (Bev); eight grandchildren, Charles, Christopher, Krista, James, David, Vincent, Lisa, Lorne and great-granddaughter Kiersten; two brothers, two sisters, many nieces, nephews and countless friends. Marie was born in Somerset, MB in 1926. She taught school in the Fort Garry School Division for over 26 years until her retirement in 1986. Marie loved life and lived it exactly as she wanted. She never complained and dealt with her challenges with dignity and grace. During her retirement, Marie spent many years playing bridge and travelling to her various casinos to gamble . The family would like to thank the staff of the Victoria and St. Boniface hospitals and especially Dr. Sheldon Permack, who cared for Marie far beyond what was expected or required. Funeral services will be held at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway on November 22 with Father Patrick Morand officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m. The service will terminate at the church and cremation will follow. LeClaire Brothers in care of arrangements. 775-2220.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Hi, I often thought about Madame Payette over the years and this morning I saw the Payette last name on a television program and it brought me back to my elementary school years. I looked up her name on the internet and found that she had passed away several years ago. I want to send you my condolences. She was a truly wonderful teacher in my grade 4 year....going back to 1981. RIP Madame Payette. • My thoughts are with your family at this time. Mrs. Payette was my Grade 4 teacher at Crane School, she was a gifted teacher. Mrs. Payette also went to High School with my Mom, Joan Sundell Tolton. My Mom was from Holland. May all your cherished memories help you through this difficult time. - Posted by: Aileen Tolton Mowat (Acquaintance) on: Nov 19, 2005
