DENIS ADELARD DEGAGNE August 6, 1923 to November 17, 2005 With his son Bill by his side, the family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of Denis DeGagne after a lengthy illness on November 17, 2005. One of 15 children, Dad was predeceased by several siblings and his grandson Jamie. He is survived by his loving wife Constance (nee Cave) of 60 years, his daughter Lynne Kowalchuk (Bill), son Bill (Anne-Marie Davis), daughters, Deborah Helander (Keith) and Denise Gow (Douglas). Papa will be missed by his grandchildren, David, Jean-Paul, Christopher, Charlie, Andrew, Maggie, Michael, Stephanie, Laura and Zachary. He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters and his brother and their families. Dad was born and raised in Marchand, MB. After moving to Winnipeg in the early 1940s he met the love of his life, Connie and were married May 12, 1945. Dad held numerous jobs and finally settled on his dream as a Restaurateur and Chef. The first restaurant was Denis' Diner on Fort Street in the 1960s and the second was Denis' Restaurant on Erin and St. Matthews in the 1980s. Family, friends and friends of friends were all employed at Denis' at one time or another and sampled his delicious home made cuisine. After selling the Erin Street Restaurant, Dad was semi-retired working occasionally and pursuing his newest hobby-woodworking. The family has heirlooms and treasures in the form of clocks, cabinets, magazine stands, desks, corner shelves and special trucks and cradles for his beloved grandchildren. The last several years, in spite of health challenges Dad was always full of life, laughter and ready for a good game of cards. Thanks to the Staff on the 2nd floor of Concordia Hospital for their special care. A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 21 at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, 264 Donwood Dr., North Kildonan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Denis' name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
