WILMA JOAN MCKIMM (nee PARKS) October 11, 1934 - November 18, 2005 Peacefully in her sleep after a courageous battle with cancer our loving mother passed away at the Victoria General Hospital on November 18, 2005 at the age of 71. She was predeceased by her father Harry, mother Irene, brother Jimmy, nephew Wesley and her step-brother Wayne Culbertson. Left to cherish her memory is her brother Alvin (Donna and Nicole), sons Brett (Leigh, Alexa and Brock), Terry (Teresa, Aaron and Brieanna) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Redvers, SK and grew up on the family farm near Rocanville, SK. She left in her late teens and moved to Winnipeg to start her life in earnest. She worked first for Eatons and then Great West Life. Eventually she moved to Princess Auto to work in their advertising department. As a very creative person, Mom was well suited to advertising and after several years there she moved to Merchants Consolidated to work in the advertising department there where she stayed until the company closed. At that time Mom decided on retirement and the opportunity to focus on what she loved including hobbies and volunteer work. She was a tireless volunteer who touched many lives. Mom volunteered for many endeavors including work with The Literacy Society, Habitat for Humanity and as a driver for Meals on Wheels, which she did until this past summer when it became physically too hard for her. Mom loved to paint and has left us with many treasures in the form of artwork depicting the things she loved. She was also an avid gardener at Millennium Gardens and was instrumental in the floral displays that adorned the site this year. She loved the outdoors and going to the lake whenever she could, be it with friends that rented a cabin or with her own family at Lake Malachi. One of Mom's favorite pastimes was spending time with her grandchildren on sleepovers and going to garage sales or movies and they were a great source of pride for her. Mom will be greatly missed by them and the rest of her family. Mom was always there to help her friends and neighbors when they needed her and those same people were there to help her when the situation was reversed. The family would like to thank all those people who were there for Mom when she needed them most. We would also like to thank the staff of the third and fifth floors of Victoria Hospital who did all they could to care for Mom and keep her comfortable. A celebration of Mom's life will be held Friday November 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home 220 Hespeler at Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made on her behalf to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy. 668-3151

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I wanted to let you know that I felt your mother was a very special woman. She was not only full of a natural zest for life but held a wonderful sense of humor with an honest approach to all her actions. Joan was amusingly forthright and had a very loving and caring nature that could only be taken as genuine as you always knew where you stood with her and I have deep respect for her. I will miss her, as will my daughters, and I am sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Liz Parks - Posted by: Elizabeth Parks (Family) on: Nov 22, 2005
