JESSIE MISCAVISH October 23, 1909 - November 18, 2005 With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the very sudden, but peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Jessie Miscavish, of Neepawa, on Friday, November 18, 2005, at East View Lodge. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, John and Annie Woloski; husbands, Mike Snezyk and Lou Miscavish; three brothers (Metro and two infants), along with many extended family members and dear friends. Left to cherish countless wonderful memories are her children, Bernice (Michael) Saj of Arden, Melvin of Minnedosa, Dave (Georgina) of Dawson Creek, BC, Jack (Pat) of Beausejour, Joe (Darlene) of Polonia and Margaret (George) Hazelwood of Neepawa, MB. She was very proud of her 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by her older brother Michael Woloski of Neepawa, sister-in-law Frances Smith of Delta, BC, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Mom was born October 23, 1909 to John and Annie Woloski in Mountain Road, MB, she was their only daughter and the youngest child along with four brothers. She received her education in Polonia, where she very quickly learned to speak Polish, as that was the common language spoken by her classmates. She remained very fluent in English, Ukrainian and Polish. At the age of 18 (1927) Jessie married Mike Snezyk and at the age of 21 (1930), became a mother and a widow. Mike was killed accidentally leaving her with a 6 month old daughter Bernice. She moved back to live with her parents and raise her daughter. On July 10, 1934, Jessie married Lou Miscavish of Polonia. They were blessed with five more children. They had a very loving and happy marriage for 50 years until Lou's passing in January 1985, in spite of all the hard times of that era, together, they found the strength and stamina to carry on and conquer the bad and enjoy the good times. They remained at Polonia, farming for 40 years. During this time Jessie's aging parents came to live with them, Mom and Dad were care givers to her father John for 18 years until his passing in 1978, at the age of 94 years, and her mother Annie for 23 years until her passing in 1987, at the age of 102 years. In 1974 they retired and relocated to Neepawa. They enjoyed their travels to visit with their children and grandchildren, regardless of the distance. Mom and Dad were widely known and well respected. They loved attending social functions and especially dancing. Mom was devastated with Dad's passing and two years later with her mother's passing. Mom was a small woman in stature, however, she was very strong willed, extremely determined, witty, happy and very sociable, very kind hearted and overly generous, sometimes outspoken and even a bit stubborn at times, but never unkind or rude (unless it was necessary). She has had a very long history of major medical problems, starting in her 40s; she had remarkably survived cancer five times. In December 2000, her health problems were again a major concern and her daughter Margaret insisted that she move in with her and George. They remained her care givers. In July 2005, Mom suffered another fracture and was hospitalized, without much progress of healing and increased weakness, precipitating the move to East View Lodge on August 23, 2005. She enjoyed the social aspect and the wonderful care and kindness shown to her at East View, however still insisting on coming back home. Mom had always been a very hard working, busy person, on the farm with Dad, raising six children, having a very large garden, selling vegetables, eggs, cream and some of her knitting. She was also very creative. In her spare time she would sew, spin wool, knit and do embroidery. At the age of 94, she still did embroidery and insisted on finding something to mend. She was a wonderful cook and baker, second to none, always having plenty of company and making sure that no one left without a care package for their home. At the age of 90 she still had a large garden, freezing and pickling the produce and giving most of it away. We children would often wonder where she found the time and strength to accomplish everything. Jessie and Lou had always been very staunch Catholics, being very involved with the church and working tirelessly for many years at St. Elizabeth's in Polonia and at St. Dominic's in Neepawa, giving even when times were very hard and money was short, they never hesitated to share anything with anyone. Mom enjoyed being a C.W.L. member for many years at St. Dominic's Parish. The life of Jessie Miscavish will be celebrated with a Divine Liturgy on Wednesday, November 23 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. David Kowalski officiating. Viewing will also be offered prior to the service. Prayers and viewing will be offered on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m., both services will be held at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Neepawa. Interment to follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Should anyone wish to make a donation in Jessie's name, you may choose a charity of your choice. We love you; we'll deeply miss you And we'll remember you always. May God keep you in his loving care. Arrangements entrusted to White's Funeral Home, (204) 476-2848.
