Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTORIA (VICKI) LYNGA MCGOWAN (nee DAVIDSON) June 2, 1915 - November 20, 2005 On Sunday, November 20, 2005, Victoria (Vicki) McGowan, at 90 years of age, left us to join her husband James (Jimmy) McGowan who predeceased her in 1989 after 52 years of marriage. Vicki lived her entire life in Winnipeg. She was born in St. James and lived for many years in the west-end of Winnipeg and St. James where she and Jimmy raised their family. After her children had grown she worked outside the home at Simpson-Sears in Polo Park for many years, where she made many friends. Mom was proud of her Icelandic heritage and was the last surviving child of nine children of Gudridur Jonsdottir and Sigurdur Davidson. She will be missed by her family: daughter Gail of Edmonton, sons Jim (Betty-Anne) of Calgary and Bob (Lynda) of Kelowna and grandchildren Kyla (Philip Ashman), Laura, David James, Shauna and David Craig, great-grandchildren Cassidy and Dane Ashman and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Chris Jones. In addition to her many relatives, Vicki will be missed by her friends, especially Dorothy Bounds, who was like a second daughter to her, and Mogens (Slim) Bondesen, her closest friend at Lions Manor. Vicki celebrated her 90th birthday with her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and was in good health until very recently. She enjoyed the last 16 years at Lions Manor, the last six of it in the Personal Care Centre there. Everyone there knew Vicki; she made friends easily and brightened everyone's day. The family is particularly thankful for the care given by the 3rd floor staff at the PCC of Lions Manor over the last five years and to the 3rd floor south wing staff at Grace Hospital for their care after her recent stroke. Vicki and her family were also thankful to Dr. Brent Armstrong for his special care over the years. A memorial service celebrating the life of Vicki McGowan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Chapel (Aubrey Street entrance) of Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Vicki's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to Lions Personal Care Centre Memorial Fund, 320 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6. Dear Bob, Lynda, and family, As you gather together to remember your dear mom, mom-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, your hearts are truly grateful for the legacy of love that she has left . As you share stories, many about just little things she did or said, you'll probably vacillate between tears of sadness and tears of joy - but they're shed with gratitude. May your time together be sweet, and may that tenderness remind you that when all is said and done in our lives, it is relationship that matters the most. With our love and prayers, Elsie and Henry - Posted by: Elsie Penner (Friend) on: Nov 24, 2005
