ESTHER KOROPATNICK (nee HAYES) After a 14 year battle with cancer, passed peacefully on November 22, 2005 at St. Boniface Hospital. Survived by her loving husband Grant of 23 years and children, April and Andrew, father John Hayes, brothers, David, Neil (Clare), Boyd (Jacquie), sister Sharon Brown (Bruce) and 17 nephews and nieces. Predeceased by twin sister Ruth Wilgosh, mother Helen Hayes and sister-in-law Susan Hayes and father-in-law Andy Koropatnick. Esther was born in Winnipeg, August 18, 1960 after twin sister Ruth. She grew up on Downing Street and attended Sargent Park School and graduated from MBCI in 1978. Spent a year at Capernwray Harbour Bible School, Thetis Island, BC, where many letters exchanged with a young man in Winnipeg resulted in an engagement and marriage to Grant in 1982. Her career choice was to be a Mom at home and she did this with excellence. A skilled manager, Esther turned a house into a home with exquisite decorating, detailed personal touches and superb cooking. Money management was one of her many strengths; her skill at converting one dollar into several through thrifty shopping made her the real wage-earner in the family. Grant always said that he couldn't afford to have Esther take a regular job - she was too valuable a contributor at home. Other strengths included care for her children and husband, sewing, arts and crafts, preparing for family dinners and holidays, home decorating and renovating and community volunteering. Faith was important to Esther and she showed this in a quiet way. Her many years as a children's volunteer impacted hundreds of kids at church and Hastings School. Esther was gifted with hospitality, generosity and a genuine helpfulness that made a cookie, muffin or cup of coffee seem like a banquet. Her faith in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour gave her wisdom, informed her decisions and guided her journey on earth. A perfect wife, who can find? She was a perfect wife as depicted in the biblical text: Proverbs Chapter 31 verses 10-31. Artist Betty Smith painted Esther's portrait as one of the Faces of Courage celebrating the life and courage of breast cancer survivors. Special thanks to Drs. John Foerster, Wanda Dabrowska, Andrew Cooke and Nurse Thanh Ha and the Oncology and Palliative Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital. Viewing will take place at the Thompson In the Park Chapel, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Thursday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m. A private family interment will precede the memorial service. A memorial service to celebrate Esther's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 25 at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faces of Courage , CancerCare Manitoba, Room ON1160, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
