Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD S. (SAM) GUTTORMSON On Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the Betel Home in Selkirk, Donald Guttormson, in his 82nd year, of Libau, MB. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Einar and Freda; and brothers, Fred and Hinrik. He leaves surviving sisters, Birgetta, Asdis, Helga, Roberta (Bertie) and Eileen; brothers, Jonas and Clifford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was born on Christmas day in 1923 at the family farm in Libau. He remained on the farm while brothers, Fred and Hinrik went to war. He spent his entire life at Libau on the farm. He farmed with Dad and spent many, many winters fishing on Lake Winnipeg with horse and caboose and later with power toboggan. He raised cattle, trapped and summers were spent making hay for his cattle. He was alone after his parents passed on until he could no longer manage on his own. He spent some time at the Selkirk General Hospital until he was moved to the Betel Home in Selkirk. Sam was a quichet person and never said 10 words when one would do. He enjoyed wating hockey on television and listening to the radio to keep abreast of world happenings. Special thanks to the staff at Selkirk General Hospital and Betel Home for their excellent care during his declining years. Cremation has taken place and a family gathering will take place at a later date. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

I remember visiting Uncle Sam's farm and having some of those one word conversations, when I'm with other family we tend to have these one word conversations while driving down back roads. - Posted by: Michael Einar Guttormson (Great-Nephew) on: Jan 19, 2012
