He will be sorely missed by his father, John (Rosewood Village in Winnipeg), brother Dave (Helen) in Calgary, sisters Carol (Bill) Jones (Winnipeg), Marg Ohm (Sidney, BC), as well as by his nieces and nephews, Neal Cowie (Wendy) Brianne and Steven; Rory Cowie; Will Jones; Susan Jones (Rolly), Aiden and Daryn; Deryck (Jen) Bodnarchuk; Krista (Kelly) Gingrich and Jadyn; John Ohm (Franca), extended family and friends. Art was predeceased by his mother Margaret (nee Gordon) 1985, sister and brother-in-law Jeannie and Ron Cowie 2004, and niece Jeri-Anne Jones 1999. Art was a person with a great outlook on life and good sense of humour who also valued his independence. In his early years in Winnipeg he was a pool shark and an avid golfer. In later years in Calgary, he continued to enjoy golf and coin collecting while he worked at Canada Post as a letter carrier. Following his diagnosis with Huntington Disease in 1991, Art volunteered on a regular basis at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre finding great pleasure in the Beaver Workshop where he was much loved and well respected. One of Art's joys was attending the annual Huntington's camp held in the scenic parks of Alberta. The family would like to thank the excellent medical staff at the Foothills intensive care unit for their compassionate care shown towards Art and his family. A Celebration of Art's Life will be held at Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, 2nd Floor, 722 - 16 Ave. N.E. on Thursday, December 1, 2005 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. His cremated remains will be buried in the family plot at Brookside in Winnipeg at a later date.
