GEORGE STEFANOWICH It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear dad, papa, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend on November 26, 2005. George passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his father Nikolaj in 1974, his loving mother Tatiana in 2003, brother Michael, sister Helen, our mother Beryl Stefanowich in 2002, and special friend Joanne Blythe in 2000. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Olga (Jim Russell) of Vancouver, BC, his children Candace Shepit, Carla Stefansson (Howard Gurevich), Cara-Lea Oswald (Scott), John Stefanowich (Chris), Roma Stefanowich, Julie Frederick (Tom), 20 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. The family is very thankful to his granddaughter Kaleigh and fiance Travis Johnson for their love and support during his final days. He will be fondly remembered by his longtime friends Bill and Liz Jamieson, Don and Terry Scott, and many, many others. George was born in Poland and came to Canada with his family in 1949. He resided in the North End of Winnipeg and attended Aberdeen School and Tec-Voc High School. George had a long and successful career at Moore Business Forms. During this time Dad met and married the love of his life, Beryl Figler, and they lived and raised their family in Transcona. Our Dad was a man with many interests. He had pride, integrity, compassion and found joy in his family and friends. He was a fabulous cook, a talent passed down from his mother. He loved to camp, fish, and entertain, but his passion was golfing with his buddies several times per week, summer after summer. Our father was a rock, a man who dedicated his life to his family. No problem was ever too small or too big for him. Thank you Dad for your support, advice, and unconditional love. We will treasure you and the times we spent together. Rest in Peace Dad. We love you and will miss you. We will meet again as we promised. The family would like to thank Dr. Pat Harris and her team along with the nurses at Concordia Hospital and Palliative Care for their care during Dad's illness. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy #1 E at Navin Road. Urn placement to follow in Holy Angel Mausoleum (Green Acres Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin Rd., (204) 222-3241

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • To George's family Please accept my condolences on the death of your father. George lived across the street from my brother Billy, and I often heard stories about the fun he and my brother had on their fishing trips. Although I did not know George well, what stands out for me was his ability to laugh and have a ready smile. My thoughts are with you and my brother whom I know will miss George very much.
