She is cherished and survived by her beloved husband Nick of 55 years; daughters, Emily and Gloria (Doug); son Jeff (Laurie); six grandchildren, Alexander, Andrea, Ryan, Lindsay, Owen and Avery; sisters, Rita (Ken) and Elsie (John); brothers, Matt (Elsie) and Bill. Sophie was born on July 14, 1934 on a farm outside Sundown, MB, where she grew up along with 15 brothers and sisters. She told many stories of the hardships her family endured and overcame. Sophie married Nick on November 18, 1950, and they lived on their farm where Emily and Gloria were born. They moved to Winnipeg in 1957. Sophie worked at the Cottage Bakery and the Rugby Inn before she began working in Food Services at the University of Manitoba. She stayed home with Jeff when he was born in 1972 and later returned to work. She worked at the University of Manitoba for many years and retired as a supervisor. Sophie's home church was the Fort Richmond Assembly where she remained a faithful member over the years. The pastors and congregation always had a special place in her heart. Sophie dedicated her life to Christ in 1957 and was a faithful women of God. Her walk with the Lord gave her strength, peace and joy and was her ultimate comfort in her last months and days. She was a prayer warrior and never let an opportunity go by where she could pray for those close to her. Sophie's love and generous spirit were precious gifts to her family and friends. She loved life and always wanted to boogie. She enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfast and trips to Fargo with her girlfriends and sisters, taking long walks on the farm, riding the four-wheeler through the bush, playing game after game of King Pedro and her many trips to Vancouver. She cherished her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend. She will truly be missed by many. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A private family interment will follow.
