Born: Jan 15, 1919
Date of Passing: Nov 26, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN POCALUJKO (MAZUR) Peacefully, on Saturday, November 26, 2005, at St. Joseph's Residence with family at her side, Helen, aged 86 years, was called to her deserved place, with our Lord Jesus. Helen was born in Lowland, MB, on January 15, 1919, to parents John and Anne Mazur. She married Nicholas Pocalujko in 1939. They lived in Hamilton, ON, for a few years, then farmed in Brookfield, MB, for 10 years, eventually settling in Winnipeg. Mom truly lived her life according to God's commandments. Her church was an important part of her life. She took its teachings seriously. Helen never spoke a cross word about anyone and was always willing to help. She worked hard throughout her life to help make a better life for her family. Whatever job Helen undertook, she did it well. There were no half measures in her efforts. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom loved babies and children, and they responded likewise. Her second love was her garden. She loved being outdoors, nurturing her plants to maturity, sharing experiences with her neighbours. Her green thumb would have put the Jolly Green Giant to shame! Helen was predeceased by husband Nicholas in 1972; her parents John and Anne Mazur; stepfather Louis Mazur; brother Joseph; sister Stella Dzuba; and granddaughter Diane Szun. Helen is survived by son Ernie (Alma) of Mississauga, ON; daughter Gloria Szun (Dan) Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Karen Rampone, Danny Szun, Alan Pocalyuko, Christopher Szun and Pattie Szun; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Paul (Carol) Mazur; and sister-in-law Mary of Hope, BC. Prayers will be said Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, December 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Munroe and Watt, with Rev. Fr. Michael Winn officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ernie Pocalyuko, Alan Pocalyuko, Danny Szun, Christopher Szun, John Mazur and Paul Mazur. The family would like to acknowledge the care and support given to Mom by Dr. Babick and the staff at St. Joseph's Residence. Many thanks and God Bless. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

I was a health care aide and did my work practicum at St. Joseph's Residence after finishing school at Winnipeg Tech College. I remember helping to feed Helen on occasion at her dinner table, encouraging her to eat more, as she wasn't a big eater. She didn't speak much, but would acknowledge what I would say to her, and occasionally would smile at me when I was trying to inject some humor into her day. I thought she was a quiet, kind lady, and wished I could have gotten to know her better. - Posted by: Linda Sear (Acquaintance) on: Dec 03, 2005
