Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BOYCHUK Peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2005 with his family by his side, John passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary in the winter of 1999; siblings, Pauline, Millie, Jack, Jean and Olga. John is survived by his three loving children, Gary, Brenda (Cliff) Murphy and Don; grandchildren, Arlene (Kevin), Chris (Michelle) and their mother Shirley and great-grandchild Liam. John was born in Winnipeg on April 10, 1913 and was orphaned at an early age. He grew up at St. Joseph's and Otterborne Schools. Dad worked on several farms and travelled by boxcar across Canada. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and was a member of the Fort Garry Horse Tank Regiment. He landed on Juno Beach on D-Day and fought throughout Europe until he was wounded in action in 1945. In 1946 John married his sweetheart Mary Serediuk. After the War Dad worked at the Deer Lodge Hospital and at Assiniboia Residential School for the balance of his career as a stationery engineer. He was also an owner/operator of a Duffy's Taxi. After retirement John and Mary loved to travel to Europe, Hawaii and often to Las Vegas. Mom and Dad could often be found in their spare time at Assiniboia Downs and in fact celebrated an anniversary there. After his beloved Mary's passing, John enjoyed spending time at McPhillip's Casino. Cremation and a private family service has taken place on Friday, November 25. Dad we will miss your sense of humour and your determination to get where you were going, often walking to the casino , regardless of the weather.
