LEATA IRIS HANCHARUK (nee STARRATT) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leata Hancharuk, whose death occurred at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg MB on November 6, 2005. Leata was born in Sioux Lookout, ON on August 12, 1957 and was raised in Hudson, ON. She started work with the CIBC at the age of 17 and remained there for twenty years. Leata married Barry Hancharuk in 1980. In 1992, Leata proudly opened a gift store at home and called it Cheers! In 1994, the business moved to it's current location and opened a second outlet in February 2005. Leata was a member of the Sioux Lookout Rotary Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. Left to mourn is her devoted husband Barry; mother Esther Starratt; two brothers, Bob Starratt (Kellie) and Jay Starratt (Anke); four sisters, Penney Lock (Andy), Faye Libler (Johnny), Leslie Legros (Maurice Bouchard), and Nicole Rose (Brian); sister-in-law Pat Starratt; brothers-in-law, Jerry Kutra, Bruce Legros, father and mother-in-law, Ben and Pat Hancharuk; brothers-in-law, Brian Hancharuk (Jennifer), Ben Hancharuk (Trish); sister-in-law Bev Howe (Don); nieces and nephews, Jenna Hoppe (Matthew), Ryder and Darby Starratt, Christopher and Jesse Lock, Dustin, Buddy, Jasmin, and Sterling Libler, Brian, Kenny and Sunny Legros, Phoenix Kutra, Kennedy Rose, Bailey Starratt, Carla, Keith and Leah Hancharuk and one great niece, Ava Hoppe. Leata was predeceased by her father Douglas Dean Starratt in 1997 and two nephews Justin Libler and Caleb Starratt. Friends were received at the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 11 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for the late Leata Hancharuk were held at the New Life Assembly Church on Saturday November 12 with Pastor Len Smith officiating. Leata's uncle Ron Bell wrote and delivered a moving eulogy. Interment of ashes will occur at a future date. Her family is extremely grateful for the excellent attentive care Leata received over the years from Dr. Grenier, Dr. Dabrowska, and Lori Lavigne of the St. Boniface Cancer Clinic. We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Len Kelly, Judy Carroll and to all other care providers for their compassion, expertise and unfailing support over the years.
