MARIAN JOHNS (nee ZANEWICH) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Marian passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005, after a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Mom will be sadly missed by her loving husband Dick; her children, David (Lesia), Donna and Richard; her beloved grandchildren, Daniel, Laura, Jonathan and Catherine; and a large extended family. Marian was predeceased by her infant twin sons; her parents, Catherine and Alexander; brothers, William and John; and her sister Anne. Born in Peremusl Ukraine, Mom immigrated to Canada with her family in 1929, settling initially in Selkirk and later in Lundar, MB, where she spent her early years working on the family farm. She later moved to Winnipeg to further her education and began her working career at J.M. Sinclair where she met her future husband. They were married in 1951 and celebrated 54 years of marriage on June 30, 2005. Mom's life centered on her family. She always put the happiness and well being of her husband, children and grandchildren first. Although Mom was a very private person, her home was always open to family and friends, where warmth, comfort, laughter, and great food were always found in abundance. Mom's farm life gave her a great love of nature. Her gardens were lush with blooms and she tended to them with as much care as she did her family. Mom was a person of great strength and conviction. She faced adversity with courage and dignity and she passed these qualities on to her children and grandchildren. We mourn the loss of our Mother, Grandmother, but most importantly the loss of a dear friend. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, December 2 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Ave. with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant officiating. A private family inurnment will take place in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. Our Family would like to thank the staff of the Calvary Place Nursing Home for their compassionate and loving care. They truly are angels. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marian's memory may be made to the Calvary Place Nursing Home or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. Marian's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • "Generous, hardworking and loving Grandma"... Marian's legacy to her Grandchildren Jonathan and Catherine. They had a connection that lasted to the end and will live forever. Her pioneer spirit, energy and excitement for life survives her passing from this world to be passed on to those that loved her. "Live, Love, Laugh" - are good words for all. We celebrate the bright light she cast on so many people. May God warm your hearts with the knowledge that her trials are over and her reward is great in heaven. My prayers and sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Jim Ruta (Friend) on: Dec 02, 2005
