Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILFRED ROBERT AGAR In the early hours of Tuesday, November 29, 2005, Wilfred Robert passed away peacefully after a two-week battle with emphysema and pneumonia. Wilfred will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Orma; son Lyle (Julie MacGregor), granddaughters, Sileas and Sara; daughter Gayle (Rick) Hassett, grandsons, Steven and Kevin; and son Gordon. He also leaves his sister Phyllis Westmacott; sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Betty Agar; in-laws, Alex and Isabel McDonald; brothers-in-law, Graham McDonald and Mark Westmacott. Wilf was born in Calgary, AB, on July 21, 1921. As his father was in the army, he lived in many places including Regina and Portage-la-Prairie before permanently residing in Winnipeg. After graduating from Kelvin High School he went to business college and for one year worked for the Department of Transportation in Ottawa. Upon returning to Winnipeg he was employed in the finance department of Trans-Canada Airlines (now Air Canada). This is where he met Orma McDonald and they were married on November 10, 1951. He retired on March 1, 1985, after 42 years of dedicated service. Wilf enjoyed many varied interests and hobbies. He loved and respected the outdoors and animal life, particularly birds. He amassed a large library of bird books as well as maintaining a keen fondness for wildlife generally. He loved his visits to Oak Hammock Marsh and was never without his binoculars when driving to a park to bird-watch. He could amaze family and friends with his knowledge of bird calls. Photography was another hobby Wilfred enjoyed with a passion so photographic books also adorned his bookshelves. When camcorders came into fashion, he too followed and enjoyed that trend. Outdoor sporting interests such as golfing and fishing Wilf embraced with relish. He treasured his fishing trips with his sons, son-in-law and grandchildren. He was a member of the Naturalist Society and of the Airline Rod and Gun Club. Throughout the years, Wilf entertained other hobbies such as stamp collecting and mushroom picking. He was fond of old musicals such as My Fair Lady and Oliver! , as well as English classics like Goodbye Mr. Chips and How Green was My Valley. The family wish to thank the caring and compassionate staff of the Winnipeg Grace Hospital who could not have been more attentive during his final weeks. Even though Wilf was unable to speak in his final days he made a point of writing a note stating that the nurses deserve a medal. A celebration of Wilf's life will take place on Saturday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Pl., Winnipeg. Rev. Hugo Unruh will be officiating. Interment of ashes will take place later at Clandeboye United Church Cemetery. Donations in memory of Wilfred may be made to McClure United Church or the Manitoba Lung Association. We will miss you, Dad. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
