ETHEL ERVINA NICOL Peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the Portage District General Hospital, Ethel Ervina Nicol of Oakville, widow of the late Russ Nicol, passed away at the age of 89 years. A Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Chuck Ross officiating. A private family interment will take place in Oakville Cemetery. Ethel was born on August 24, 1916 to Julia and Herbert Reid in Saskatchewan where she was raised and received her education. She eventually met Russ Nicol and they were married in Brandon. They lived in several communities before settling in Oakville where they purchased a grocery store, which they operated until 1987 when they retired. She remained in Oakville until her passing. Ethel enjoyed travelling to different destinations visiting with family and friends. She was very well known for her needlework, and she enjoyed her home and independence that went with it. Predeceased by her husband, Russ; one grandson, Jeff Wimble and one brother. She leaves to mourn her passing her three sons, Don (Elaine) of Oakville, Brian (Kerstin) of Victoria, BC, Ron (Jackie) of Edmonton, AB; one daughter, Andree (Bernard) of Victoria, BC; and five grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, three sisters and many extended family. As family played an important part of Ethel's life, it is her wish that rather then Memorial Donations, take your loved one out for supper. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Andree, Don, Brian, Ron and Families I was just speaking with Barrie ( my brother ) who told me of your mother's passing. I have so many fond memories of your Mom - always a smile for everyone and a kind word of support. I see our Mom's happily doing their needlework or painting their " Royal Doultans", and sharing many "giggles" while creating their legacy. Your mother 's presence and positive influence was a gift I will treasure of my years growing up in Oakville. Sharon Brooker Barker - Posted by: Sharon Brooker Barker (Friend) on: Jan 01, 2006
