DIETER REINHOLD HETTIG 1939 - 2005 It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and Opi on November 29, 2005. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-one years, Rita; daughters Lisa (Kurt) Hollander and Sheri (Cory) Alstad, as well as his grandchildren Annabelle, Magnolia, Isaac, Maxwell, and Ruby. He will also be sadly missed by his sister Inge (Richard) Hohensee, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Dieter was predeceased by his parents Reinhold and Maria, and sisters Helga and Margit. Dieter was born July 13, 1939 in East Prussia. These were the war years - a difficult and frightening time. A time of hunger, separation from his father, and great sorrow. After the war Dieter, his sister and mother escaped from the communist-controlled Eastern Sector. After reuniting with their father, the family immigrated to Canada in 1952. Dieter grew up humbly on Simcoe Street in Winnipeg at a time when it was difficult being a German Boy. He attended Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate and C.T.I. in Edmonton. As a result of his involvement with the youth group at Mission Baptist Church Dieter accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, which was followed by his baptism. He was a member of McDermot Avenue Baptist Church for 45 years. His love for the Lord was manifested in his many years of service to the Church. He loved music and sang in quartets and choirs. He was involved in numerous Church committees and boards and physically laboured on many building projects. He and Rita were youth sponsors for many years. Dieter served on the boards of Youth for Christ, Meadowood Manor, and the Manitoba Children's Museum. Dieter worked at the Bay and Riker Pharmaceuticals before embarking on a thirty-six year career with AstraZeneca. He was passionate about his work, which took him from Toronto to Vancouver. He won numerous performance awards and was well known and respected by the medical community. He loved the Lord, was devoted to his beloved wife Rita and cherished his special times with his daughters and grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Foerster for his lifelong friendship and for his kindness, compassion and professional care over the last two and one half years. Also heartfelt thanks to Dr. Krahn, nurses Bonnie and Laurie whose care and compassion brought a sense of peace during Dieter's final days. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121: 1 and 2. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the McDermot Avenue Baptist Church, 821 McDermot Ave., with interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. • It is with hearfelt sadness to read of the passing of Dieter. I worked with Dieter for many years at Astra. Although for a time I was his manager, more often than not, it was I who looked upon Dieter for inspiration and motivation. He truly was the consummate professional.
