WALTER KENNETH MORRIS It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Kenneth Morris at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, with Kerry at his side, on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, after a brief struggle with cancer. Walter leaves to mourn his partner in life, Kerry Alderson, his sister Betty Wohl of Winnipeg, his brothers Earl Moss (Adele) of Vancouver and Jerry Moscovitch (Gloria) of Winnipeg, along with his children Marshall Morris (Toronto), Debbie Yusim and Audra Roitenberg and their children (Winnipeg), many cousins, nephews, nieces and their respective children. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Jenny (Kankewit) Moscovitch and his brother-in-law, Joseph Wohl. Walter was born in Winnipeg on February 16, 1933 and grew up in the north end with his sister and two brothers. During his teen years, Walter became a Sea Cadet, a decision that lasted 20 years. Walter was very committed to B'nai B'rith where he also served as National Vice-President and Chairman of the Winnipeg Council as well as, on the Anti-Defamation League Commission. Walter was also extensively involved with the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (C.I.T.T.) where he also served as President. Walter worked at a young age first in a fur factory, then as a clerk typist at the City of Winnipeg, Engineering Department. In 1951, Walter commenced working for CN Rail and through hard work and determination, rose to the position of Senior Market Development Officer which lasted 40 years before retiring in 1990. Walter then set up his own company as a traffic, transportation and logistic consultant and also taught students at Red River College providing his knowledge and expertise gained during his professional career. Walter was extremely active in playing tennis, walking many miles at a time, bicycling to Headingley and Lockport and back, swimming, cross country skiing. Fitness and diet were extremely important to Walter. Walter enjoyed travelling extensively with Kerry through the years with several trips to various parts of Europe, Asia, Israel, Scandinavia and Russia and California. Walter believed that everyone should live their lives to the fullest. Walter was a kind, sensitive and considerate person to all who knew him including his family and his friends. He was articulate and always enjoyed good conversation with everyone. The funeral was held on November 25, 2005 at Chesed Shel Emmes with Rabbi Rose officiating and interment at Bnay Abraham Cemetery. Warm thanks to his niece, Susan Kilburn and to his friend, Judy Mathieson for their heartfelt speeches of Walter. Pallbearers were Howard Wohl, Sandy Wohl, David Moscovitch, Danny Moscovitch, Julius Wise and Jeff Lieberman. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Kilburn, James Alderson, Gerald Sneesby, Kevin Sneesby, Bryson Sneesby, Kriss Mathieson, Alwyn Rosser and Geordie Mathieson. Special thanks is extended to Drs. Kaufman and Berrington, the Neurology Department at HSC and Dr. Garry Shroeder of CancerCare Manitoba including the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, and the physiotherapists and staff at GA5 at HSC for their exceptional professional care, sensitivity and kindness towards Walter. Special thanks also to family and friends who have provided and continue to provide, their kind support and sincere compassion through the difficult days. Walter made a substantial donation to CancerCare Manitoba and will live on with his name dedicated on a special plaque located at Clinic 2 at the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation building. Walter hopes that his donation will assist in finding a cure for all cancers.
