PAUL STAJER April 16, 1923 - November 23, 2005 The family of Paul Stajer sadly announces his death on November 23, 2005 at the age of 82. Paul will always be remembered with great love and affection by Ruth, his devoted wife of 58 years; his children, Paulette and Lorne Weiss, Rena and Barry Shenkarow; sister and brother-in-law Rebecca and Ike Bernstein; grandchildren, Carrie and Ross Ransby, Richard Weiss, Mira and Matthew Narvey, Allison Weiss and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Shirley Sue and Simon. Paul, the sixth of seven children, was born in Klobutzk, Poland in 1923. Growing up, Paul would go to school during the day and apprentice to be a tailor at night. It was his skill as a tailor that helped to save Paul's life during the holocaust. Shortly after the war, Paul met the love of his life, Ruth Mandelman, in a displaced persons' camp in Germany. They were married in Paris on December 6, 1947. In 1950 the Stajer family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Paul worked hard to provide for his family as a tailor, grocer and lastly a hotelier. In 1970 Ruth and Paul moved to Alberta. In 1977 they moved back to Winnipeg after an unfortunate car accident, which changed Paul's life forever. Paul was a soft spoken and honest man who was well regarded in every aspect of his life. Paul's courage, determination and love for his family enabled him to be a survivor in the truest sense of the word. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ron George and the staff on the 5th floor at Grace Hospital for their exemplary care and compassion. Funeral services were held on November 24 at The Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were Lorne Weiss, Barry Shenkarow, Marvin Bernstein, Richard Weiss, Ross Ransby and Matthew Narvey. Honorary pallbearers were Ike Bernstein and Sam Toronczyk. Donations may be made to The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba or the Shaarey Zedek.
