Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAM H. BRICKMAN Sam passed peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on December 1, 2005 at the age of 89. His parents Abraham and Sarah and his brother, Jack, predeceased Sam. Sam is survived by his loving wife Clara Marie and sons Miles, Ralph, Douglas and his daughters Sharon, Patricia and Heather along with 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His sisters Lena, Ethel and Frieda and brother Lou also survive Sam. Sam was born in Winnipeg and raised in the west end where he graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Sam volunteered to defend our rights through the Second World War serving overseas for five years. After returning from the war, Sam enrolled in the University of Manitoba where he graduated in Pharmacy in the Class of 1950. Sam worked for the Hudson's Bay Company and then ventured on his own to own Talbot Drugs. Next Sam increased his entrepreneurship by becoming the owner of Brickman's Pharmacy in Fort Rouge. Sam retired from his own business only to come out of retirement and work for White Cross Pharmacy and Shoppers Drug Marts. Sam decided to retire again only to challenge a new adventure by successfully completing the Ontario Pharmacy exams and have another successful career with Big V Pharmacies in Tilbury, Ontario. Sam retired back to Winnipeg in 1988 and enjoyed every minute with friends and family. His special rapport with children was shown with his charming smile that captured the hearts of any child who came near. Sam maintained a keen sense of humour and kept his mind sharp by emailing, reading, doing crosswords, challenging game shows such as Jeopardy or Millionaire or watching baseball, basketball, tennis or football. He even bet on the 2005 Grey Cup and won the half-time pool. Sam was always up for a good game of cribbage or dice but most of all was his undivided love for his wife, Clara. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff on the 4th and 5th floors of the Victoria Hospital as well as the Respiratory staff at the Riverview Centre and W.R.H.A. Home Care staff. Thanks also to Dr. Craig Hildahl and Dr. Vince Taraska. All their assistance and support is greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 4th at 12:30 at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel, 1023 Main St. Interment will follow at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Manitoba Heart and Stroke, 6 Donald Street R3L 0K6. A heart of gold stopped beating, Hard-working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Leaves and flowers may wither, The golden sun may set, But the hearts that loved you dearly, Are the ones that won't forget.
