Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE LILLIE CORRIGAL (nee DAYSON) Peacefully, after several weeks battling cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Annie, on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Grace General Hospital, at the age of 81 years. Remaining to forever cherish Anne's memory are her children, grandchildren, sisters, one brother and sister-in-law, Faye Bennett. She was predeceased by her loving husband Harvey M. Corrigal in 1994 and her sister Freda Poyser in 1977. On February 7, 1924 Anne was born in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, the third daughter of Elsie and Francis Dayson of Great Orton, Cumbria. Anne attended school in Great Orton until she came to live in Canada in 1936 with her parents and five sisters, Margaret, Ellie, Edna, Freda, and Frances (Bessie). Her brother William (Bill) Dayson was born later in Canada in 1937. She was named after two of her mother's closest friends; Annie Blackburn, and Sister Lillie Davis, M.B.E. (a deaconess who was awarded the O.B.E. by the King of England for her humanitarian work with poor children). Anne lived the majority of her years in Winnipeg after emigrating from England at the age of 12. Her family landed in Roblin, MB where she attended school. At the age of 18, she joined the Canadian Women's Army Corp, where she served for three years as a Corporal in the Signals Office. Now living in the city, she worked at many jobs; keeping books and office managing for small businesses. She met her husband Harvey while working at Greyhound Lines of Canada. In 1980, she changed vocations, and began teaching at Success Business College. Anne was very involved with various teaching associations, the student council, and also served on the examination board. She and two co-workers wrote a textbook on bookkeeping 1989 which was published and used nationwide. Anne retired from Success in 1992. Being an avid reader, she became interested in writing, and took a course in writing children's stories. She had a poem published in 1993. Travelling was one of her favourite pastimes. Anne had been several times to Europe, Asia, South America, and travelled throughout Canada and the United States. Her knitting and sewing usually placed in the Roblin Fair. Every niece, nephew, grandchild and great-child were proud to wear her creations. After Harvey passed away, she went to teach in a business college in China for two years. For the past eight years she lived with her daughter, helping to raise her grandchildren. She continued to travel, and started to write her memoirs earlier this year. Anne was known to be a true friend, kind and caring, generous, intelligent and always surprising. She had made many good friendships. On Friday, December 9 at 10:30 a.m., Anne's funeral service will be held in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 637 Buckingham Rd., in Charleswood, with Pastor Lanny Knutson officiating. For those who wish, a second funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 3:00 p.m. in Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home, 325 Main St. West, Roblin, MB. Thank you to the nursing staff, health care aides, and spiritual care team at the Grace General Hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Li and Dr. Harris for their outstanding care.
