MAX VEENHOVEN Max Veenhoven, our dear father, grandfather and husband passed away peacefully at age 85 on November 30, 2005 in Vancouver, B.C. Max was predeceased by his first wife Gerda (Onderstal) in 1990 in Winnipeg. He is survived by his wife Helen; his four children and nine grandchildren, Henry (Paula, Natalie and Adrian) of Toronto, Martin (Susan, Sarah, Robert and Nicholas) of Calgary, Margo (Jeff, Steven and Sandra) of Vancouver and Michelle (Scott, Fraser and Angelina) of Winnipeg. Max was born in Utrecht, Holland in 1920, immigrated to Canada in 1949 and spent 45 years living in Winnipeg where he worked for the Provincial Government Assessment Branch and raised his family. Max was a model civil servant who assumed the office role of the complaints person because of his unflappable character. Max and Gerda started the Netherlands Credit Union from which they developed many lifelong friends. In 1993 he married Helen and they moved to Vancouver in 1996. Max was an avid gardener, bridge player and a true gentleman, much loved and respected by everyone. Max received many letters and phone calls from friends over these past months. He and his family were appreciative of all the outpouring of support and affection during this time. A memorial service will be held at Parkdale Manor, 2740 W. King Edward Ave., Vancouver BC, V6L 3H5 on December 11 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Winnipeg. If friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the Nature Conservancy at Ste. 300 - 1205 Broad St., Victoria, BC, V8W 2A4.
