ALLAN A. MENARD Allan A. Menard left this world on Friday, December 2, 2005 with his two beloved sons, Scot and Greg and their mother Anne-Marie Menard, at his bedside at the Vancouver General Hospital. Allan was born on June 12, 1933 in Fisher Branch, MB. He is survived by his brother Dollard (Margaret) and family, his sister Denise Berthin and family and by many other loving relatives. His parents, George and Delia, sister Benita and brothers, Terence and Donald predeceased Allan. Allan had a lengthy career with Canadian National Railways, beginning in Winnipeg in 1951 and retiring in Vancouver in 1990 from his position as Public Affairs Manager for British Columbia. In earlier years, in Edmonton, he was a Jaycee President, actively involved in many events such as Klondike Days, Miles for Millions and the Canadian Paraplegics. Over the years, Allan was a member of various business organizations, a Jaycee Senator as well as a member of the Vancouver Terminal City Club. During post-retirement years, Allan took a Personal Care Attendant's Course at Douglas College and was on the Honor Roll. After that time, he worked at a hospice in Squamish and enjoyed living at his rural home along the Cheakamus River in Paradise Valley, BC. He was also very proud of his ancestry and pleased to receive his Certificate of Metis Status in 1999. Allan truly enjoyed life, his family, friends, music and dancing, reading and poetry and was an avid history buff. He was known as being a wonderful cook and host. Allan was a kind, caring, generous person who always gave a helping hand to those who were less fortunate. Allan was well known for his wit and humour by all his family and friends. In recent years, Allan was very active with St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, singing in the choir, helping with various events and functions and was a 4th Degree Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Our sincere gratitude to all the caring Doctors and staff at the Squamish Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital and the Vancouver General Hospital. A special deserving thank you to friend Michael Christie, caring for Allan at home, especially during Al's last few difficult weeks of his life. Prayers were held at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 8 at Christ The Redeemer Parish, 5999 Keith Rd., West Vancouver, with Fr. Tim McCarthy officiating. The funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, December 9, at St. Joseph's Parish, 2449 The Boulevard, Garibaldi Highlands, with Fr. Angelo de Pompa officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Heart and Stroke Association or to the Canadian Diabetic Association. Allan, you will be dearly missed. Rest in Peace. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day.
