Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWENDOLYN SHERSTONE Gwendolyn Sherstone died peacefully after a short illness, on December 8, 2005, at Donwood Manor. Born November 17, 1916, Gwen enjoyed her early childhood in Old Battleford, SK. First Grade in Carman was followed by a move to Winnipeg in 1923. Gwen inherited gifts of ministry and compassion from both parents, Harry and Margaret Sherstone. She was particularly gifted in the domestic arts, crafting many a baby blanket, bib or knitted article for layettes distributed by the Thelma Wynne Project. Family members were also recipients of many hand-sewn and knitted articles. Following graduation from Rupertsland School, Gwen began a lengthy teaching career in 1936 in Onion Lake, Elkhorn and Prince Edward School in Winnipeg. She chose early retirement in order to volunteer her time and talents to St. Stephen's Anglican Church, in which her father had served as Parish Priest. For many years she delivered meals on wheels. As long-time president and member of the ACW, she spent a good portion of her time visiting the sick. Gwen led Brownies and Girl Guides as well as co-ordinating Little Helper parties for the W.A. She will be remembered for her loving and devoted care of her sister, Margaret Josephine (Peggy) and strong support of her brothers Paul, Clifford, John and their families. Gwen was a living example of her Christian faith. Well done, thou good and faithful servant. She was predeceased by her parents and all siblings. Her life will long be celebrated by her nieces, nephews and close friends. Many thanks to the gifted staff of Donwood Manor. The funeral service will take place on Monday, December 12 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave., East Kildonan, with the Rev. Diane Guilford officiating. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Anglican Church. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555
