Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES DONALD SMITH 1931 - 2005 On Sunday December 5, 2005, a very special man died peacefully at Riverview Health Centre. James Donald Smith, JD, was born on Friday March 13, 1931. He will be missed by many, especially his beloved wife of 51 years, Peggy. Their love story began in an Ontario hospital. JD was a patient following a serious car accident and Peg was one of his nurses. She took such good care of him that he asked her to marry him. They enjoyed many happy times in Ontario, Florida and Manitoba. JD was the father of four children, Mark (Christine), Kathleen, Wendy (Orel) and Gwen. In his gentle way, he inspired all of them to find a career they loved and to follow their dreams. He loved to swim and he made awesome grilled cheese sandwiches and Kraft dinner when Mom worked nights. JD was also Grandpa to Callahan, Erin, Nathan and Reegan and he found great pleasure in being with them. JD had several careers over his lifetime; he was best at repairing things and growing things. He had a green thumb and he made lovely flower arrangements and he could grow bonsai. He could also repair any appliance or wire a house with ease. JD was a kind, generous person that would always lend a hand to someone in need. He worked tirelessly at the Christmas Cheer Board and the Food Bank. He liked sports and news shows but he hated commercials. JD was always ready for a lively discussion on any topic. The family would like to thank all the staff at Riverview Health Centre, 3East for their tender care and support. Cremation has taken place and a private family service was held. To honour JD, please quit smoking and or make a donation to one of his favourite charities: The War Amps of Canada or The Lung Association. Dad, you are in our hearts and will be with us forever. We will miss you this Blue Christmas.
