(nee TURNER) Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, Hannah McArton passed away at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home, at the age of 93 years. Remaining to cherish her memory are her older daughter Marilyn Sagert (Norman) of Winnipeg; son-in-law Gordon Criggar of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Tanya Knopf (Loren) of Kenora, ON, Heather Ayres (Eric) of Oakbank, MB, Cheryl Krueger (Tony) of Winchester, ON, Allen (Chantal Hemery) of Winnipeg, Glenys Vanstone (Howard) of Brantford, ON; and her great-grandchildren, Devin and Leshia Knopf, Carley and Ryan Ayres, Hannah and Alexandrea Krueger and Terra Vanstone. Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews. Hannah was predeceased by her husband Harry A. McArton in 1943; her parents, Ernest H. Turner and her mother Phoebe A. Houston; her brother Alexander H. Turner; and her younger daughter Glenna L. Criggar in 1999. Hannah was born on September 23, 1912, on the family farm near Carleton Place, ON. She graduated from Carleton Place High School and from the Chambers Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Smiths Falls, ON in 1933. Hannah and Harry were married in 1936 and moved to a farm in Huntley Township near Carleton Place. Following Harry's death in 1943, she moved into Carleton Place and returned to nursing. In 1977, she retired from the Almonte General Hospital in Almonte, ON after holding positions of staff nurse, operating room supervisor and Director of Nurses. During her working years, she held several positions in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and worked hard to improve conditions for nurses in Ontario. In 1993, she moved to Winnipeg to be near her daughters and their families. She loved hockey and spent many evenings and weekends watching her grandson and great-grandsons play. Other hobbies included macrame, Japanese flower arranging and crocheting. In keeping with Hannah's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Our family would like to thank the staff at Calvary Place for their care and kindness over the past few years. Flowers are gratefully declined.
