GERTRUDE (GERT) ERNESTINE MILLER (nee BUECHLER) February 3, 1919 - December 10, 2005 In the early morning hours of December 10, 2005, Gert serenely passed away in her sleep. Born and bred in Winnipeg and very much a homebody, our mother was not an enthusiastic traveler. Over the years, however, Mom did travel to British Columbia, Calgary, New Mexico and Arizona to visit with family. Not only that, but Mom traveled to Hawaii in 1995, where she loved dipping her toes in the warm ocean waves and sharing a tropical drink with her sister-in-law, Rose. Towards the end, Mom looked forward to this last leg in her life's journey where she will be greeted with loving arms by her husband (Carl), family members and many good friends who predeceased her. Words cannot convey how much our mother will be missed by her children, Don (Karen) Miller of New Mexico, Gail Campbell (James) Richardson of Arizona and daughter Susan (Dan) Hope of Winnipeg; as well as her grandchildren, Jason Miller, Amanda Hope and Chris Hope; also left behind are several nieces, nephews and close friends who feel the void that Mom's passing leaves. We will carry many cherished memories of Mom in our hearts forever. Her many talents included cooking, baking, cake decorating, sewing, English smocking (she created several beautifully hand-smocked one-of-a-kind dresses for her daughters and granddaughter) and many forms of needlework. Over the years Mom had been very involved in her church and in The Arms of The Cross where she lived for the past five years. A caring and giving person, Mom was also stubborn, feisty, and did not hesitate to tell it like it is. Once rigid and inflexible, she learned tolerance and to bend with and accept the changing world. She was, and is, a source of inspiration. Gone, but never forgotten. Our family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pat Harris and the staff at the Grace Hospital CancerCare, and the wonderful nurses and health care workers at Misericordia Health Center (Cornish 6) who cared for our mother and our family with gentleness and compassion. A celebration of Mom's life and reception will be held Wednesday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington St., Pastor Frank Bahr presiding. Cremation has already occurred and interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
